SOFTBALL: UCLA HOME IN NCAA REGIONAL.Byline: - Ramona Shelburne Two-time defending national champion UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University) UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX was selected Sunday to play host to one of 16 regional sites in the 64-team NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association women's softball team championships. The Bruins (30-16), seeded seventh, open Friday at 2:30 p.m. against Loyola Marymount (34-18). Also in the Bruins' regional are UNLV UNLV University of Nevada, Las Vegas (43-17) and Cal State Fullerton (28-19). Big West Conference champion Long Beach State is seeded third at Fresno State's regional. Expansion to 64 teams this year led to a format change, with 16 four-team sub-regionals followed by best-of-3 super regionals May 27-29. The eight survivors advance to the June 2-6 Women's College World Series The Women's College World Series (WCWS) is the final portion of the NCAA Women's Softball Tournament for college softball in the United States.
