Barth grinned after striking out the last batter she faced Friday.

The Chaminade of West Hills pitcher had just pitched a perfect game but she wasn't satisfied. Barth's 10-stirkeout outing in a 3-0 Mission League softball softball, variant of baseball played with a larger ball on a smaller field. Invented (1888) in Chicago as an indoor game, it was at various times called indoor baseball, mush ball, playground ball, kitten ball, and, because it was also played by women, ladies'  win against visiting Louisville of Woodland Hills left coach Jon Ellinghouse's team feeling unbalanced.

in eight hits against Royals starter Rebecca Kratz.

"When people look back at this game, no one will know what happened in this game," said Barth, who has tossed three perfect games in her high school career.

"Our hitting didn't pay-off like we wanted it to. This (perfect game) is not that different from the other ones. But I didn't feel like I pitched well because we couldn't hit."

Bliss scored the first run of the Eagles' league opener in the second inning when Royals pitcher Rebecca Kratz's throw to first base flew over the first baseman's head.

"We have great sticks on this team," Ellinghouse said. "They just didn't produce today. We have to get the runs when we can.

"It's a good thing we have a pitcher in (Barth) who will keep you in a game and a defense that backed her up."

Barth and Ellinghouse said part of the reason Chaminade's bats were relatively quiet was because they had not faced a pitcher like Kratz in a while.

The Eagles were used to facing faster pitching.

"I don't want this to sound mean, but I think (Kratz's) pitching was slow," said Barth, who brought her record to 7-4. "That threw us off. We couldn't adjust our swings."

The Royals (2-9, 0-2) couldn't handle Barth's curve ball and the Florida Institute of Technology-bound pitcher had Louisville hitters whiffing whiff

"We knew she's a tough pitcher," said Rob DiMuro, Louisville's coach.

"We tried to be aggressive. I am proud of the way our girls took some good swings. They just weren't enough."

Barth's perfect game came after giving up five hits combined in her past two games, both against Oaks Christian of Westlake Village.
