loss to Arizona as the turning point in the Bruins' season.

But in the short term, Enquist can only call it a ``gut check.''

``I'm disgusted,'' said Enquist after the top-ranked Bruins lost to No. 2 Arizona in front of a standing-room-only crowd at home for the second consecutive day. ``I don't like to use that type of language, but this team needs to have a gut check because if they think they are bigger than the game, then they are at the wrong place.

``The word of the day is the two-syllable word `de-fense' and this team needs to learn the value of it because all they are focused on is offense, all they dream about is offense, all they want to do is be the hero and hit the ball out.''

Two defensive plays in particular cost the Bruins (32-4, 4-2).

Arizona (37-3, 6-0) scored its first run in the second inning on a double steal with runners at first and third. Shelly Shultz attempted a steal of second and Wendy Allen broke for home on the throw.

The ball was cut off by second baseman second baseman

``The key to games like this is to get on the board early and that's why I gambled on that play,'' Arizona coach Mike Candrea Mike Candrea (born August 29, 1955) is the head softball coach at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. In the top of the seventh, Arizona senior Lovieanne Jung broke the game open with a line-drive grand slam grand slam

off Keira Goerl (22-4) that hit halfway up the scoreboard in left. Jung's at-bat was set up by two consecutive infield hits and an error by third baseman Toria Auelua.

The weekend sweep should catapult Arizona into the top spot in the ESPN ESPN Entertainment and Sports Programming Network  and National Fastpitch Coaches Association polls.

UCLA left eight runners on base and scored its lone run on a solo homer by senior shortstop Natasha Watley off Arizona's Alicia Hollowell (24-2) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

``It's early and I think it's definitely good that we're getting (the losses) out now,'' Watley said. ``Nobody gave out any rings today so I'm OK with that.''

The teams will play again May 9 in Tucson, Ariz.
