It was a bittersweet bittersweet, name for two unrelated plants, belonging to different families, both fall-fruiting woody vines sometimes cultivated for their decorative scarlet berries.  weekend for Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States.  Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  in Sunday's consolation final of the ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and  Western national tournament in Oakdale to clinch fourth place.

``It was a tremendous experience,'' coach Jeff Capponi said.

Despite its excitement about the way the team's best-ever season ended, Conejo Valley found reason for disappointment.

``Everybody was more sad because it means the season is over and we have to break up,'' Capponi said. ``We've really become a close family. We never dreamed we'd be playing this long. Some of them said they want to have another practice just so they can scrimmage again. I told them, `No, it's time It's Time was a successful political campaign run by the Australian Labor Party (ALP) under Gough Whitlam at the 1972 election in Australia. Campaigning on the perceived need for change after 23 years of conservative (Liberal Party of Australia) government, Labor put forward a  for coach to get a life.' ''

The team ensured itself of at least one more outing together, though. Capponi is taking the team to Magic Mountain in limousines later this month as part of a deal he made.

``They really like limousines,'' he said. ``I told them if they finished in the top four, I'd do that.''

Meghan Shevlin helped ensure her team's trip to Magic Mountain by pitching the complete game in the 5-2 victory over Simi Valley. It was Conejo Valley's third win in four meetings this summer against state-champion Simi Valley.

Conejo Valley won its last four games and went 6-2 overall at the tournament after losses to Bakersfield and Goleta dropped the first-time participants into the consolation round. Although it usually isn't a high-scoring team, Conejo Valley opened with 11-0 and 9-0 leads in its first two games.

Capponi said part of the key was that the tournament was dominated by Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  teams, so Conejo Valley had prior experience against many of its opponents. Whittier, Cypress and Corona finished in the top three spots.

Shevlin and Vicky Brown provided solid pitching while Brie Fuller, Sara Kenna-Forrest, Bryeanne Fitzgerald and Julia Stanchina led the offense, but it was defense that gave Conejo Valley the extra edge.

``It was really a team effort, Capponi said, ``but we had great defense. Defense really helped us get to where we were.''

Conejo Valley finished the season 36-10 with titles in four tournaments.

12-and-under: Simi Valley tied for third place after the tournament was called because of a looming storm in Fort Carson, Colo., on Sunday.

Simi Valley defeated Five Cities 10-0 and Yorba Linda 6-2 and held a 6-4 lead over Carlsbad when the tournament was called.

Mandy Kilionski struck out eight while throwing a one-hit shutout aginst Five Cities. Grace Stokes homered and Stephanie Savre and Lisa Figoura both tripled.

Against Yorba Linda, Erika Janke hit a first-inning grand slam and recorded the win on the mound.
