SOCIETY FOR SAVINGS NAMES CONNELL PRESIDENT, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
 HARTFORD, Conn., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Society for Savings Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: SOCS) ("Society" or "Bancorp") today announced that its board of directors has appointed Lawrence Connell president and chief executive officer. Connell, a nationally known figure in the financial community, is a fomer Connecticut Banking Commissioner, having serviced in that position in the Grasso administration from 1975 to 1977. Prior to becoming Banking Commissioner, Connell was vice president, Counsel and Secretary of Hartford National Corporation and Hartford National Bank and Trust Company from 1968 to 1975. Before joing Hartford National, Connell was a National Bank Examiner and Deputy Regional Administrator in New England and California.
 From 1977 to 1981, Connell served as chairman of the National Credit Union Administration and National Consumer Cooperative Bank. During that period he also served as vice chairman of the Federal Financial Institution's Examination Council and vice chairman of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation.
 Since 1985 Connell has been a partner in the law firm of Prather, Seeger, Doolittle & Farmer and has advised clients on banking, regulatory and legislative matters. Connell's most recent management position has been with the New Hampshire Savings Bank Corporation as chairman and chief executive officer, serving in that position since October of 1990. He also worked with the management of other New Hampshire Banks, the FDIC, and state authorities to assist with the reorganization of New Hampshire's troubled banks.
 In the past 10 years, Connell has headed several financial institutions. He served as president, chief executive officer and chairman of San Jacinto Savings Association, Houston, Texas; president and director of United Savings Association of Texas; director, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Commodore Savings Association, Dallas, Texas; and president, Washington Mutual Savings Bank, Seattle, Wash. He also served as a director of Pacific First Financial Corporation, Tacoma, Wash.
 Connell received a B.A. degree from Harvard College, a law degree from Georgetown University, and an M.A. degree in economics from Trinity College.
 In making the announcement, Rudolph P. Arnold, Society's chairman of the board, said, "Society is pleased to appoint Lawrence Connell president and chief executive officer.
