SOCCER TRIO SELECTED TO TRYOUT FOR OLYMPIC DEVELOPMENT TEAM.

Three members of the Valley United Soccer Club boys' under-17 team have been selected to attend the 1997-98 District Seven Olympic Development Program team tryouts.

They are Cameron Damwijk (Kennedy High School), Jorge Torres (Loyola) and Matt Jordan Matt Jordan (born October 13, 1975 in Aurora, Colorado) is an American soccer goalkeeper who currently plays for the Montreal Impact of USL First Division.

Jordan graduated from Overland High School in Aurora,
 (Canyon).

Jordan, a third-year varsity goalkeeper was also selected for the 1996-97 team.

Tryouts are scheduled Feb. 7 and 8 in Bakersfield.

Soccer: Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  United Pride, an under-12 girls' soccer team, retained its first-place position in the Silver Division with a win and a tie over the weekend.

The Pride tied California Quest 0-0 on Saturday.

Midfielder Lauren Abrams, goalkeeper Elenna Martinez and defenders Karen Moore and Cassie Rush all had strong outings.

On Sunday, the Pride defeated SAS (1) (SAS Institute Inc., Cary, NC, www.sas.com) A software company that specializes in data warehousing and decision support software based on the SAS System. Katie Kirst led the offense, scoring two goals. Micaela Sulham, Danielle Malkowski, Ivy Henderson, Melanie Null, Dani Rutan, Moore and Nina Gebhardt each added a goal.

Assists were made by Malkowski, Sarah Owens, Julie Hauserman and Abrams.

Defensively, Whitney Russell Whitney Russell Harris-Crane was a fictional character on the NBC soap opera Passions. Her birth year is 1982. She was played by Brook Kerr since the series' debut in July 1999 and last aired in September 2007 when Whitney moved to New Orleans. , Amy Schureman and Denise Hilton were on their game.

Soccer: Canyon High alumni are being sought for alumni games and a festival to begin the soccer season. The activities are Nov. 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the school. Alumni interested in playing should call (805) 252-3280 or (805) 252-8626.

Basketball: Tickets are available for the upcoming men's basketball season at The Master's College History
The Master's College was founded as Los Angeles Baptist Theological Seminary on May 25, 1927 to meet the need for a fundamental Baptist school on the West Coast.
