SOCCER TOURNEY TO BE HELD : VENTURA MEET TO DRAW STATE WOMEN'S TEAMS.

The 10th Soccer by the Sea tournament, which will bring together women's soccer teams from around the state, will take place this weekend at Huntsinger Park in Ventura Ventura (vĕnt`rə), city (1990 pop. 92,575), seat of Ventura co., SW Calif., on the Pacific coast in a farm and oil region; inc. 1866. .

The tournament will feature 31 teams of 16 women ages 18 to 49 in various age divisions. Teams are expected mostly from Ventura County but also from Lompoc Lompoc (lŏm`pōk), city (1990 pop. 37,649), Santa Barbara co., S Calif., in an oil and agricultural area; inc. 1888. It has a huge flower-seed industry and two large diatomaceous earth mines. , Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850. , Diamond Bar, Riverside, Orange County, Ojai and Bakersfield.

Some of the most competitive matches figure to be in the masters (age 30 and older) division, where tournament director Dana Miller will play goalie for the two-time winning Happy Campers Happy Campers are a punk/rock band, from Las Vegas. The band consists of three members: Isaac Campa (Vox & Guitar), Master Jay (Drums & Vox) and MeanGene (Bass & Vox). The band is featured heavily on the Bumfights series and this has helped to ensure their popularity. . Thousand Oaks High School Thousand Oaks High School is a high school established in 1962 and located in Thousand Oaks, California. It is a California Distinguished School, and offers curriculum at all levels for Thousand Oaks students. The mascot is the lancer.  girls' coach Gail Kanney coaches the Crusaders, which tied with the Happy Campers in a recent Ventura Independent Soccer Association summer league season.

There also will be two other divisions: a C division, which allows only four players per team to be under age 26; and a B division, which requires just a minimum age of 18.

Teams will be placed into groups today starting at 9 a.m. and will play the other teams in the group. Teams receive six points per victory, one point if the victory is a shutout Not to be confused with Shootout.

In team sports, in American English, a shutout (a clean sheet in soccer) refers to a game in which one team prevents the opposing team from scoring. While possible, they are highly improbable in some sports, such as basketball.
, and a point for every goal scored up to three.

The teams with the eight highest point totals will advance to Sunday's action, which starts at 9 a.m. with the quarterfinals. The championship games will begin at 2 and 3:15 p.m.
