SOCCER ROUNDUP: GIMPY PETERSON IS HEALTHY ENOUGH FOR CRESCENTA VALLEY.

Byline: Bryan Rodgers Special to Daily News

David Peterson David Robert Peterson, PC (born December 28, 1943 in Toronto, Ontario) was the twentieth Premier of the Province of Ontario, Canada, from June 26, 1985 to October 1, 1990. Less than two hours after receiving clearance from his personal physician, Peterson scored the game-winning goal in a sudden-death shootout Shootout

``I'm going to sleep well tonight,'' Peterson said. ``For two weeks I've been in extreme pain. That shot cleared it, though.''

bone sent Peterson to the doctor and he wasn't cleared to play until 6 p.m., when the match started.

After the first shootout, when both teams converted on all five attempts, Crespi's Jay Duffy banked his shot of the crossbar and it hit goalkeeper Mike Beerer's back. The ball trickled into the net, but the official disallowed the goal because it was considered a rebound.

Peterson followed with his game winning shot that secured a spot in tonight's final.

``I just knew my kick would be to win it,'' Peterson said. ``I'm glad I made it and got the chance to play.''

Peterson's late arrival was welcomed by Crescenta Valley coach Bill Papagno; the Falcons (8-4) where shorthanded. Four starters where missing due to illness or injury and Papagno had to call up freshman Chris Ragsdale from the junior varsity team For the American rock band, see .

``People laugh at us because we are small. But with every game we get a little bit better and a little bit stronger,'' Crespi coach Rob Kodama said. ``We're growing up fast.''

Crespi held Crescenta Valley standout Lindon Pecorelli, who had 21 goals in 12 games, scoreless. Pecorelli had his chances; he hit the goal post twice, banked one off the cross ball and Crespi goalkeeper Peter Bomar made an outstanding save on another shot.

La Canada 4, Pasadena Poly 3: Bassam Kahn's goal in a sudden-death shootout lifted the host Spartans into tonight's final.

La Canada (6-1) held a 3-2 lead with six minutes remaining but saw Pasadena Poly (6-2-1) tie it on Gregg Freeburg's third goal of the game.

La Canada goalkeeper Chris Garnic was solid during the shoot-out as he stopped four of Pasadena Poly's attempts.

Garnic's best save may have been his last, as he made a diving A DIV Associate of Divinity  stop of Joey Gill's shot and held it inches short of the goal line.

There was a downside to La Canada's victory. Nick Marquand, one of the Spartans' top players, was taken to the hospital for a rib injury.
