The score came in the 28th minute of the first half when forward Jesse Luna lofted a beautiful corner kick to the front post, which Vincet converted on a header.

The higher-seeded Highlanders had trouble clearing the ball the entire first half and Nogales spent the better part of the game playing on Royal's side of the field.

Royal played with a greater urgency in the second half but failed to get any of its chances on target. The Nogales defense made its goal hold up for the game.

--San Fernando 3, Reseda 2: San Fernando and Reseda split their two Valley Mission League boys' soccer matches this season and it took two overtimes to separate the eighth-and ninth-seeded teams in a City Section second-round playoff match at San Fernando.

San Fernando prevailed with two minutes left in the second overtime when senior defender Fernando Alvarez's direct kick hit the top of the crossbar before breaking the plane of the goal.

Elias Guardado of San Fernando (10-2-1) and William Sims of Reseda (22-7-2) scored two goals each.

San Fernando, which faces top-seeded El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

--South Gate 1, Grant 1 (SG 3-2 PK): With a 2-1 deficit in a shoot-out competition, the Lancers of Van Nuys seemed as though they simply lost their confidence in goalkeeper Mark Iraheta. Half the team walked off the field, leaving the sophomore goalie with no support with three shots remaining in the contest held at Grant.

The sophomore goalie's job was made easier when Javier Marravilla's attempt sailed high over the goal, giving the Lancers (13-4-2) a chance to tie and stay alive.

Jonathan Uribe scored on the ensuing kick for the Lancers, who gathered once again at midfield as a sign of support. The celebration, however, was short-lived as Rodolfo Mondragon scored on the final shot to give the No. 30 Rams (9-8-4) the upset over No. 14 Grant.

The Lancers, who were unable to capitalize on many opportunities in both of the overtime periods, took the lead in the 54th minute of regulation when Ric Perez's penalty shot got pass the diving attempt by South Gate keeper Armando Navarro.

The game was heated featuring 30 foul calls (18 by Grant) and four yellow cards.

But Sanchez turned away the Conquistadores, recording 10 saves.
