``I really didn't like it,'' Matalon said. ``It didn't feel right. Quite frankly, the reason why we scored so many was that the kids coming off the bench want to show they can play.''

The Rebels (17-0), ranked No. 1 by the Daily News, had 10 different players score. All starters were removed by halftime, when the score was 6-1, or shortly after. Only midfielder Kiel McClung Kiel McClung (born May 1, 1985 in Palmdale, California) is an American soccer player who currently plays defense for California Victory of the USL First Division. Career  scored twice.

``I don't want anybody to think we're poor sports,'' Matalon said. ``I don't think the kids were trying to throw it in their face.''

The Rebels said they tried to slow it down after scoring the first four or five goals.

--Antelopes win: Antelope Valley's first Golden League win in four years didn't result in a big celebration. But it actually might have made the Antelopes overconfident o·ver·con·fi·dent

After beating Highland 2-0 Wednesday, the Antelopes lost 2-1 to Lancaster on Friday. Highland was considered the second-best team in the league.

The Antelopes know they need more than one win to gain respect.

``As we walked off the field, some of my players heard Highland players saying, `Man, we lost to A.V. and they suck,' '' Savage said. ``I think that is how it's going to be until we prove them wrong. It's going to take awhile a·while

, and might not even be this year.''

But the Antelopes think they should win every game. Well, almost every game. Today, Antelope Valley plays host to Quartz Hill.

``We're not going to throw in the towel,'' Savage said. ``But at the same time, you kind of have to be honest with yourself.''

--Foothill update: Hart can take charge of the Foothill League this week.

The Indians easily handled Valencia 5-0 on Friday, improving on a 3-0 preseason victory over the Vikings at the Hart tournament.

This week, Hart gets its two other main competitors in the Foothill League for the first time. The Indians play host to Canyon on Friday and travel to Saugus on Tuesday.

Canyon ended Hart's two-year reign atop the league last season. Hart is ranked No. 9 by the Daily News.
