, the future is now. Players don't always spend the entire season at the lower level.

In fact, several Palmdale, Highland and Quartz Hill players either started on the junior varsity and have been promoted to the varsity, or they made the varsity as freshmen.

It's one reason these three schools are thought of as having the top JV programs.

Palmdale has been at the top of the Golden League the longest, having won four out of the last five titles. The success began on the JV level.

But it doesn't always stay there.

Coach Claudia Cline cline, in biology, any gradual change in a particular characteristic of a population of organisms from one end of the geographical range of the population to the other.  said current varsity player Enrique Flores Flores, town, Guatemala

When then-varsity coach Mike Shepard brought Flores to the varsity, he fit in. Cline said Flores needed to be with players of similar ability.

Now a senior, Flores is the team's leading goal scorer, and the No. 6-ranked Falcons are atop the league standings again.

Flores isn't the only one to make the jump. On the current varsity team In the United States and Canada and UK, varsity sports teams are the principal athletic teams representing a college, university, or high school or other secondary school. ``They look real good. That's why I have so much depth,'' Cline said. ``Look at how many players I brought up in the last month.''

Cline said she expects all to be on the varsity next season.

``They keep coming. We've got strong players for now,'' she said.

At Highland, freshman Ben Heermance skipped the JV and went straight to the varsity. Next year, coach Lemuel Galvao expects sophomore sweeper Armando Perez, sophomore defender Ricardo Garcia, junior forward Josh Lowe and junior midfielder Anthony Olvarez to successfully make the jump to varsity and contribute.

``They're the best on JVs,'' Galvao said.

Quartz Hill coach Mike Kuper said he doesn't think his JV's talent level is far behind Palmdale's. He's already brought up two freshmen, defender Kyle Gookins and stopper Tony Lawson. Both start for the Rebels, and Lawson was named Most Valuable Player of the Lancaster JV tournament, despite Quartz Hill's fifth-place finish.

``It's tough. I've got juniors and seniors sitting on the bench,'' Kuper said.
