SOCCER BEAT ON A MISSION.Byline: Chris Cocoles, Heather Gripp Staff Writers Harvard-Westlake has won the battles, but Chamimade ultimately has prevailed in the wars. One of the region's best girls' rivalries finally resumes tonight when Chaminade of West Hills hosts Harvard-Westlake of Studio City. The teams' first meeting was postponed because of rain and will be made up next week. The No. 2 Wolverines have dominated the third-ranked Eagles through the years. When Chaminade defeated Harvard-Westlake on Feb. 1, 1999, it snapped a winless streak to the Wolverines at five years. Last year, the teams tied both meetings, but the Wolverines claimed their second consecutive Mission championship and fourth in five years. Harvard-Westlake has the league title supremacy SUPREMACY. But in the postseason, Chaminade has done well, winning four consecutive Southern Section crowns. Both teams are among the Division IV favorites again. BIG GAME PART TWO Another girls' match worth checking out today is Hart at Canyon in a 4:45 p.m. start. Hart's seven-year streak of Foothill League championships is in jeopardy. The Indians' (4-1-3) only loss is a forfeited for·feit n. 1. Something surrendered or subject to surrender as punishment for a crime, an offense, an error, or a breach of contract. 2. But draws against Valencia, Canyon and Saugus has Hart trailing both Canyon (5-1-2) and Valencia (5-2-1) with two games left. Canyon is one point ahead of Valencia, but with the Vikings facing bottom-dwelling teams Burroughs and Burbank, the Cowboys still have Hart and an underrated Saugus team. So Canyon might need to win out to hold off Valencia. While Hart has dominated the league's championship picture, Canyon has been the Indians' biggest nemesis Nemesis (nĕm`ĭsĭs), in Greek religion and mythology, personification of the gods' retribution for violation of sacred law; the avenger. Torres' situation later worsened, though. He had a seizure on the sidelines and had to be rushed to a hospital. He hasn't played since. ``Two concussions in a season, it can't be healthy, especially for a 17-year-old,'' said Quartz Hill coach Andre Matalon, who learned that Torres also suffered a concussion with his club team less than a year ago. ``I have real hesitation in playing him. The JV players were left playing a JV game, which they won. The varsity lost to Rio Mesa. JUST LIKE THE MOVIES When the Quartz Hill boys' team needed to improve its teamwork, Rebels coach Andre Matalon sat his players down and made them watch a pep talk from the movie ``Any Given Sunday.'' That was before Quartz Hill faced Lancaster at the end of the first half of Golden League play. Matalon said his players came out more fired up than ever before for that game and have been playing as a unit ever since. DAILY NEWS TOP 10 BOYS No. Team (record) LW 1. The Indians need a big game from Caso today to keep their hopes alive for a third consecutive Foothill League title. Potential upset Highland became the first team in three years not to lose at Quartz Hill the last time the teams met. Combine that with an intense rivalry between club teammates and Highland's desire to hold on to a playoff spot and the Bulldogs could be the first Golden League team to beat the Rebels.
