SOCCER BEAT: HART, ON HOT STREAK, RAISING EYEBROWS IN FOOTHILL LEAGUE : INDIANS HAVE 25-1 EDGE IN LAST 3 GAMES.Byline: Brian Dalziel Daily News Staff Writer Since suffering an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Canyon on Jan. 12, the Hart girls have won their last three games by a combined score of 25-1. The five-time defending Foothill League champions crushed Burroughs 11-1, Burbank 9-0 and Saugus 5-0. Other coaches in the league are taking notice. ``They've been tearing up the scoring charts,'' Canyon coach Gregg Cohen cohen or kohen (Hebrew: “priest”) Jewish priest descended from Zadok (a descendant of Aaron), priest at the First Temple of Jerusalem. Breakthrough win: Valencia's 2-0 victory over Canyon's girls last week was the first for the Vikings in their five-year history against the Cowboys. ``We really played them well,'' Valencia first-year coach Tony Scalercio said. ``There were a couple of keys. We stifled sti·fle 1 v. sti·fled, sti·fling, sti·fles v.tr. 1. To interrupt or cut off (the voice, for example). 2. their offense with solid defense. And the players did everything basically right and didn't make mistakes.'' Said Cohen: ``We just made some errors, but we didn't have much of a starting lineup For the line of action figures, see . A starting lineup in sports refers to the set of players actively participating in the event when the game begins. The players in the starting lineup are commonly referred to as starters, whereas the others are substitutes . The flu bug has run through our team. ``But that's not an excuse. We didn't play up to our expectations. We did not play well. Valencia played well defensively and capitalized on our mistakes. We just didn't do it.'' Valencia's hoping to pull off another first today when the Vikings host Hart at 3:15 p.m. ``The Canyon win was a big win for the program,'' Scalercio said. ``It was a big milestone. Hart is a very good team, and honestly I'm looking forward to playing them just to see how we match up with them. ``If we play well, I think we'll have the opportunity to beat them.'' Perkins cleared: Canyon sophomore midfielder Kelly Perkins, out with a knee injury, was cleared to play this week. The Foothill League took the week off for finals, which allowed teams a chance to get healthy. Canyon boys hang in there: Canyon boys' coach John Robb John Robb may refer to:

And when Ceasar Aguilar, a freshman, came out just minutes into the game and didn't return because of stomach pains, Robb was down to 13 players. ``And two of those on the field were sick as well,'' Robb said of Chris Patella patella (pətĕl`ə): see kneecap. and Jeremy Esswein. ``And they played well. We played a really scrappy scrap·py 1 adj. scrap·pi·er, scrap·pi·est Composed of scraps; fragmentary: scrappy evidence. scrap game and the kids just played hard.'' The Cowboys needed at least a tie that game, because they are fighting for a playoff spot with a fourth-place record of 2-2-2. Home, sweat home: Hart's boys are in first place with their final four games at home. ``We've been practicing on our playing field for the first time all year this week,'' coach Ron Lindberg. ``And it's a wide field and we like to spread things out.'' The Indians play Valencia today at 3:15 p.m. Earlier this season, the Vikings knocked them off, 1-0. ``The boys are really looking forward (to today),'' Lindberg said. ``They know they have to step up and do their job, because Valencia has a good team.'' No worries: The Saugus girls suffered their first league loss Friday, 5-0 loss to Hart - their worst defeat of the season. But first-year coach Ellen Dinsenbacker said her team already has put the game behind them. ``We're just getting ready for our next game,'' she said. ``We just talked about the Hart game for a bit and I told them to move on.'' Saugus, 4-1-1 in league, hosts Burroughs today. Out for the season: Dinsenbacker said starting junior defender Kelly Cornelison will have an MRI 1. (application) MRI - Magnetic Resonance Imaging. 2.
