While postseason berths already have been decided, today's action is not entirely without meaning.

Oak Park, buoyed by Carroll's three-goal performance against Bishop Diego on Wednesday, is shooting for a share of the Tri-Valley League title with St. Bonaventure, which dealt the Eagles their only league loss this year.

Defending Marmonte champ Simi Valley lost a large part of its offense when injury forced Alex Ingraham to miss the season, but the Pioneers were expected to remain among the contenders.

Preseason results, including a win against Westlake for the championship at the Simi Valley tournament, showed the Pioneers were capable. When league started, Simi Valley struggled to produce goals and was in jeopardy of failing to reach the playoffs.

Simi Valley had five ties in the first half of league play and is starting to come up with victories - at precisely the right time.

The Pioneers are 5-1-5 in league and tied for second place with Westlake 6-3-2. Both are two points behind Newbury Park which is 6-1-4.

The loss to Simi Valley was the first in league play for the Panthers.

``Everyone is still chasing us,'' Newbury Park Guy Sanford said. ``We need to beat Moorpark (today).''
