Monroe 6, Marshall 1: Liz Nemeth and Haydee Lopez scored two goals to lead the host Vikings (15-3) past the Barristers in a first-round game.

Kennedy 4, Banning 0: Goals by Laura Robins, Erica Espinoza, Brigitte Macias and Jennifer Bernson helped the host Cougars (14-6-1) advance to the second round. Kennedy will host Poly on Friday.

Cleveland 4, North Hollywood 3: The Cavaliers (16-5-1) got two goals apiece from Bryne Blumstein and Angela Veliz to advance to the quarterfinals. Deniss Lopez had two goals and Erin Wade added another for the visiting Huskies (6-6-2).

Garfield 1, Verdugo Hills 0: The host Bulldogs scored on their first sudden-death penalty kick to advance in the playoffs.

GIRLS' SOUTHERN SECTION

DIVISION I

Simi Valley 2, Arcadia 1: The Pioneers advanced to the quarterfinals after they downed the Apaches on penalty kicks.

After Arcadia (16-7-3) hit two of four penalty shots, Simi Valley responded by scoring on all four of their opportunities. Lori Tandy, Jill Clarkson, Cara DeStefano and Sara Janke all hit their shots and helped the Pioneers (19-5-1) move into a matchup with the Division I second seed, Peninsula.

DIVISION III

Chaminade 3, Calabasas 1: Michelle French, Carlie Stokes and Kerrie Clavadetscher each scored a goal as the No. 1-seeded Eagles (24-2-1) defeated the visiting Coyotes in a Division III second-round game.
