Bradley, 47, guided Chicago to the MLS See multilevel security.  championship in its inaugural season, 1998, left the Fire to take charge of the MetroStars in 2003 and became available when Metros GM Alexi Lalas Panayotis Alexander (Alexi) Lalas (born June 1 1970, Birmingham, Michigan) is a former Greek-American soccer defender, who became one of the most famous soccer players in the United States after he played in the 1994 FIFA World Cup.  fired him in September. His 18-year-old son, Michael, is a midfielder for the Metros.

Bradley also has coached at Princeton and Ohio universities and was an assistant to Bruce Arena when D.C. United won the 1996 and '97 MLS titles and with the U.S. national team. His record in seven MLS seasons is 114-85-41.

Bradley called his new position ``the most important and challenging coaching job in pro soccer in the U.S.'' and ``an important opportunity to grow soccer and passion for our sport in the United States.''
