But the fifth game turned out to be Chaminade's neatest trick of all.

The second-seeded Eagles outlasted third seed Village Christian 15-6, 7-15, 12-15, 15-13, 15-9 at Glendale College.

The Eagles (18-3) move onto the first section title match in school history against Santa Ynez on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Cypress College Cypress College is a community college located in Cypress, California. Village Christian (24-1) led 9-4 in the fourth game before the Eagles rallied to send the match into a decisive fifth game.

The Eagles played from behind in the fifth game as well. The Crusaders held 4-0 and 7-3 advantages but watched Chaminade score the next eight points.

``You've got to chip away and come back point-by-point and not let yourself get down,'' said junior outside hitter Brian Bardos, who finished with 30 kills.

The Eagles are used to playing in pressure-packed matches. Wednesday was their fifth match that went the full five games.

After losing to Loyola and Alemany the first two times in five, Chaminade has found a way to win the next three such matches.

``We're a very emotional team,'' said senior setter setter: see sporting dog.

In a match with so much on the line, it was difficult not to get caughtup in the excitement for either team.

Village Christian coach Bill Schnobrich expected to see the Eagles fluctuate up and down.

``We knew that no lead was safe against them,'' Schnobrich said.

The Crusaders discovered that in the both the fourth and fifth games. The Eagles turned to both Bardos and Adam Hickerson (33 kills) during their attack. Brandon Woodmansee finished with 18 blocks to key the Eagles'net play.

``I knew we were going to come back,'' Jocas said. ``It was just a matter of us playing our game.''

The Crusaders were shaky in the first game, making costly serving errors. But seeking a second trip to the section finals since 1995, Village took command in the second and third games.
