Alex Dunphy tried not to make it sound too easy. She noted that the opposition's comeback Comeback

``We came out expecting it to be really tough,'' she said.

15-9, 15-3, 15-4 in the Southern Section Division III-A semifinals, the toughest part for Dunphy in reaching the final might have been sitting on the bench last week.

``That was really tough,'' said Dunphy, the USC-bound setter setter: see sporting dog.

With Dunphy and Davidson back and at full strength, Harvard-Westlake (23-4) is the healthiest it has been in weeks and at just the right time. The second-seeded Wolverines face No. 1 Bishop Montgomery of Torrance in the final. Bishop Montgomery defeated Harvard-Westlake in the teams' previous meeting, when Davidson was injured in·jure

``Me and Justine sat on the bench and talked last week,'' Dunphy said. ``It was so hard for us. You watch the team, and there's nothing you can do.

``It was great to be back. ... It was the first time in three weeks we've all played together.''

Dunphy had 32 assists and seven kills. Davidson added 11 kills, tying Frannie Felder for the team high.

Harvard-Westlake was running smoothly enough by the third game that the Wolverines opened with a 10-0 lead.

The only real threat Corona del Mar (19-9) provided all night was in the first game. Harvard-Westlake scored the first four points of the game and had a 12-1 advantage before Corona del Mar started chipping away at the lead.

Once the score reached 13-3, Harvard-Westlake turned into a far different team than the one that started the match. Balls dropped untouched among groups of Wolverines, and others were hit into the net or hit too many times as the Sea Kings closed within 13-9.

``They're a good team, so that didn't surprise us,'' Dunphy said.

Corona del Mar's momentum from the first game extended to early in the second as the Sea Kings took a 2-0 lead. But after a kill by Felder evened the score and Corona del Mar hit a ball into the net for a 3-2 Harvard- Westlake lead, the Wolverines quickly pulled away.
