SO, IS IT MILLER TIME YET? VALENCIA'S TIGHT END DOES HIS JOB BUT WAITS FOR A BIGGER ROLE.

Byline: Jim Inghram Staff Writer

Getting noticed at tight end while the best running back in your school's history roams the backfield is a difficult task. Yet Valencia High's Brian Miller
For the footballer, see Brian Miller (footballer).

Brian Miller is a British actor. He appeared in the Doctor Who serial Snakedance and provided Dalek voices in Resurrection of the Daleks and
doesn't let it effect the way he plays.

``Everyone knows we are going to be a running team first,'' Miller said. ``When you have a player like Manuel (White) you have to be. I don't feel left out. I just do what I canto take care of the guy I'm responsible to block and when they call my number I make sure I'm ready I'm Ready is the double platinum second release from R&B singer Tevin Campbell. I know there are other ways to contribute.''

Miller has certainly made contributions on offense.

He has nine receptions for 141 yards and has caught a pair of two-point conversions In American football and Canadian football, a team may try to score a two-point conversion (score two points) instead of an extra point (one point) immediately after it scores a touchdown. .

``We are very pleased with Brian,'' Valencia coach Brian Stiman said. ``He is 6-foot-4, he catches the ball really well and he blocks well. He's done some really good things.''

Miller is content with his contributions so far and is excited about the prospect of the offense diversifying a bit more.

``We intended to have a more balanced offense,'' Stiman said, ``but we had to develop another quarterback (after starter Zack Sapp was injured in·jure

in the first week) and we needed to take things slow. I think since the first day (Kyle Bauer) started he has gotten increasingly better and more confident. It's indicative of the progress he and the receivers have made.

``It's better for us all the way around to have a bona fide [Latin, In good faith.] Honest; genuine; actual; authentic; acting without the intention of defrauding.

A bona fide purchaser is one who purchases property for a valuable consideration that is inducement for entering into a contract and without suspicion of being
passing game. It keeps defenses guessing and gives (our) running backs a rest. I have no doubt that if the situation calls for it we could easily pass the ball 20 times in a game.''

It's music to Miller's ears.

``You are there for the team,'' Miller said. ``Your first responsibility is to make sure you do things that help the team reach their goals, but as a tight end it is exciting when you know the ball is going to come your way.

``There's also a little added pressure to make sure you don't mess up.''

In addition to the development of Bauer, having coach Harry Welch Welch , William Henry 1850-1934.

``Coach Welch knows everything about football,'' Miller said. ``Coach Stiman was doing a great job with the offense, but coach Welch only has to worry about the offense and not everything else.

``He was calling plays we haven't run since the summer (against Burroughs on Friday). He has a way of instilling in·still also in·stil

Miller realizes he's not automatically going to go out and catch 10 or 12 passes a game, but the extra one or two opportunities are enough to get him excited.

``I feel like I will get a chance or two,'' Miller said, ``but it's up to me to perform. I still have my main responsibilities of blocking, but I feel confident I can get the job done no matter what they ask of me.

``Having a guy like Manuel on the team makes everyone look good and takes the pressure off, but when they call your number you better be ready and I plan to be.''
