SNOWBOARD FIT TO BE SPLIT.

YOSEMITE HIGH COUNTRY - It looks like Courtney Scribner took a chain saw to her snowboard. It's split in two down the middle. Scribner wasn't mad at her snowboard - it came this way.

 Split Decision snowboard is designed to come apart so it can operate like a pair of skis for going uphill. Scribner attaches ``Tractor Skins'' to the split boards. The skins are made of cloth with a one-way nap that grips the snow for climbing.

. Scribner says the skins are wider than those on backcountry skis and really grab the snow on steep slopes.

``Like four-wheel drive,'' she says.

At the top of the slope Scribner takes the skins off, locks the board halves together, rotates the bindings to snowboard mode and rides new lines in untracked snow.

Voile is the French word for ``sail,'' and Scribner sails down slopes with breathtaking views of Mt. Dana and the Yosemite High Country.

Scribner works at the Tioga Pass Tioga Pass (el. 9,943 ft. / 3,031 m.) is a mountain pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. State Route 120 runs through it, and serves as the eastern entry point for Yosemite National Park.
