``That's the nature of showers,'' said Bruce Rockwell, a weather specialist at the National Weather Service. ``We can't predict what areas are going to get them.''

Rockwell said the low temperatures, which tied a 1979 record of 29 degrees in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969. , helped push away clouds, averting showers in the valleys. The weather is expected to warm up by the end of the week.
