Services to be provided would go beyond what is currently available from any provider in Connecticut and will include broadcast television, premium broadcast channels and pay-per-view and ultimately will include video services including movies on demand at any time of the day or night, interactive shopping, interactive games, childrens features, educational services, home banking and a wide array of information and entertainment services.

SNET's FCC filing is the nation's first plan by any company for an entertainment and video offering covering an entire service area -- providing a unique plan of virtually statewide information, communications and entertainment.

"The filing of this application," said Ron Serrano, SNET's senior vice president of corporate development, "Is an important step in our commitment to making real for our Connecticut customers a whole new world of information, communications and entertainment. With I-SNET, Connecticut's information superhighway which SNET is constructing right now, customers will have the benefits of state-of-the art communications and data services for many decades to come. The same fiber optic and coaxial cable network that we are putting in place for the communications and information needs of the future, makes it possible for us to bring our customers a new definition of entertainment with our multi-media service, SNET Personal Vision.

"Using one network, which is principally designed to meet Connecticut's telephone needs, we plan to offer our customers exciting new entertainment services, greater choice and the highest level of reliability at affordable prices," he continued.

"As we venture into offering entertainment services to our customers, we fully expect Connecticut to become a hotbed hotbed, low, glass-covered frame structure for starting tender plants. It differs from a cold frame only in that the soil is heated—either artificially as by underground electric wiring or steampipes, or naturally with partially fermented stable manure, which  for competition with cable TV and other out-of-state companies offering telephone service. We welcome the opportunity to go head-to-head with competition in communications and multi-media services and know that it will bring out the best in us. For over 100 years, Connecticut customers have known us for dependable phone service. Increasingly, those same customers will look to us to bring them new services which fit their personal needs, are easy to use and improve the quality of their lives," continued Serrano.

He added, "We have a commitment to Connecticut to position this state as a leader in the information age. For over a year we have gathered vital information from our customers in our West Hartford West Hartford, town (1990 pop. 60,110), Hartford co., central Conn., a suburb of Hartford; settled c.1679, inc. 1854. Requesting permission for a statewide commercial service is the logical next step for SNET."
