SNET NOMINATES NEW DIRECTOR, ELECTS SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT

 NEW HAVEN, Conn., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- William R. Fenoglio, president and chief executive officer of the Barnes Group, Inc., has been nominated for election to the board of directors of SNET (NYSE: SNG) at its shareholders' Annual Meeting on May 12.
 Prior to joining Barnes in 1984, Mr. Fenoglio was a vice president and general manager at General Electric. He received a B.S.M.E. degree from the Rose-Hulman Institute, Terre Haute, Ind. He is vice chairman of the board of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association and serves on the boards of the Barnes Group and Goulds Pumps, Inc.
 The seat for which Fenoglio has been nominated is currently held by Norwick R. G. Goodspeed, chairman of the board, People's Mutual Holdings. Goodspeed is retiring after 14 years of service on SNET's board.
 The other Class I Directors whose terms expire this year also were nominated for election: William F. Andrews, advisor, Instoria Providentia; Dr. Barry M. Bloom, executive vice president-research and development, Pfizer, Inc.; Dr. Claire L. Gaudiani, president, Connecticut College; and Daniel J. Miglio, president and chief executive officer, Southern New England Telecommunications Corporation.
 Ronald M. Serrano, a vice president of Mercer Management Consulting, Inc., (formerly known as Strategic Planning Associates) was named to the new position of senior vice president-corporate development.
 Serrano will be responsible for SNET's strategic planning and development activities.
 At Mercer, Mr. Serrano developed and led one of the largest and best known management consulting practices in the telecommunications industry worldwide. He worked with a broad cross section of leading telecommunications providers in the United States, Latin America, Europe and the Far East.
 He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.
