Chihuahua (chēwä`wä), state (1990 pop. 2,441,873), 94,831 sq mi (245,612 sq km), N Mexico, on the border of N.Mex. and Texas. The city of Chihuahua is the capital.
told city animal control officials Thursday he will not seek a permit to keep his snake, Alissss, in the city.

Instead, owner Angus Johnson said he will seek a good home for her outside Los Angeles.

Peter Persic, the spokesman for the Los Angeles Department of Animal Regulation, said Johnson decided not to turn in an application for a wild animal permit and regain custody of his boa.

``We explained to him the likelihood that it would be denied,'' Persic said.

Alissss, who ate Babette the Chihuahua on Saturday in West Hills, had escaped during last week's heat wave from Johnson's home down the street from the dog's owner, Flossie ``Jackie'' Torgerson.

Johnson held a news conference Thursday, telling reporters he felt bad about the incident and has offered to replace Torgerson's dog.

In an interview earlier in the day, Johnson said he can't afford to move right now, making it difficult for him to move out of city limits to get Alissss back.

The snake will remain in custody at the city's Chatsworth animal shelter "Dog Pound" redirects here. For the rap group, see Tha Dogg Pound.

An animal shelter is a facility that houses homeless, lost or abandoned animals; primarily a large variety of dogs and cats.
until Johnson decides where the snake will live and the city verifies the safety of the snake's new environs, Persic said.

As a result of the incident, Torgerson is seeking a ban on all dangerous animals in city neighborhoods, and L.A. City Councilman Hal Bernson Hal Bernson served as Los Angeles City Councilman for the 12th district. He was chair of the Transportation Committee. Prior to being on the City Council, he served in the Navy.
