(Nasdaq:HAUP HAUP High-Accuracy Universal Polarimeter ) has selected its non-PCI 10/100 Ethernet technology to be incorporated in its line of network media receiver products, including the recently announced MediaMVP Ethernet set-top decoder device, enabling TV sets to access PC-based music, video and pictures via Ethernet home local area networks. Unit growth in the media adapter See digital media hub.  market is forecasted to rise to 23 million units by 2007, according to a 2003 report by Parks Associates.

In addition to offering PCI-compliant products, SMSC provides a range of non-PCI solutions that are the perfect fit for the rapidly growing embedded network market, many of which are designed for embedded applications where additional costs can be saved by not requiring a PCI bus. Hauppauge Digital selected SMSC's embedded Ethernet controller to support its MediaMVP Ethernet set-top box decoder device, which creates a direct interface with MediaMVP's embedded processor and eliminates the need to use a PCI bus interface.

"We selected SMSC's Ethernet connectivity platform for its reliability, performance and efficiency, offering a flexible interface that uniquely matched our application," said Ken Plotkin, Hauppauge Digital's CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. . "SMSC's non-PCI Ethernet device optimizes the speed and performance of the MediaMVP, ultimately enhancing the user's experience as they turn any TV set or home entertainment system into a media playback device via the home network."

Hauppauge Digital's first model, the MediaMVP enables TV sets to access PC-based music, video and still images through an Ethernet home local area network. It provides PC users greater convenience and versatility with their audio/visual entertainment systems by allowing them to view media stored on a PC at their TV set or through their home entertainment systems.

"Hauppauge Digital is on the cusp of a potentially explosive wave of market demand," said Johnson Tan, Director of Networking Products at SMSC. "By providing silicon-based Ethernet solutions that don't require a PCI (1) (Payment Card Industry) See PCI DSS.
