SMITHKLINE BEECHAM'S HENRY WENDT ISSUES ANNOUNCEMENT
PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Noting that the integration phase of the merger has been successfully completed, SmithKline Beecham (NYSE: SBH) Chairman Henry Wendt announced today that effective Jan. 1, 1992, he will reduce his time spent on SmithKline Beecham business to about 50 percent.
"The board of directors and I have agreed that my duties as chairman be redirected to those areas most critical to the long range future of the company," Wendt said. "This decision follows the successful completion of the integration phase of the merger of SmithKline Beckman and Beecham.
"The board has asked that I concentrate on working closely with the chief executive and other senior executives to provide counsel on those matters relating to the longer term strategic direction of the company as well as, of course, the normal chairman's responsibilities including government and trade relations and supporting the chief executive in shareholder relations. We believe these duties can be accomplished with less than a full-time commitment.
"As SmithKline Beecham moves into the next phase of development, I take great pride in our management team and their ability to transform our new company into a superior competitor and global force for health care. I look forward to working with them for many years to come."
Wendt will continue to maintain offices in London and Philadelphia and to serve on the Corporate Executive Committee and Corporate Business Development Committee.
