SMC(R) Networks (www.smc.com), leading provider of networking solutions for the Enterprise, the SMB (1) (Small to Medium-sized Business) Also called "SME" (small to medium-sized enterprise), it refers to companies that are larger than the small office/home office (SOHO), but not huge.  and all the way home, today announced that its wireless networking products are providing connectivity to the players' tent at the 84 Lumber Classic of Pennsylvania, this week's stop for the PGA Tour: Sept. 15-21 at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa in Farmington, Pa.

An EZ Connect(TM) Turbo 2.4GHz 11/22 Mbps Auto-Sensing Wireless Bridge (SMC2482W), initiates wireless connectivity from the wired hotel network, and an SMC 2.4GHz High-Gain Antenna Ceiling Box Kit (SMCANT-CEILINGBOX) ensures that the connection is strong and clean all the way out to the concierge station at the players' tent -- between 300 and 400 yards away. Players use the tent as a locker room, dining facility and escape, so concierge services are in demand there. At the concierge station at the players' tent, hotel staff use notebook computers equipped with SMC's award-winning EliteConnect(TM) 2.4GHz 802.11b High Power Wireless PC Card (SMC2532W-B W-B Welch-Berlekamp (equation) ) to connect to the hotel network to order services, make reservations, and perform other concierge functions for PGA (1) (Professional Graphics Adapter) An early IBM PC display standard for 3D processing with 640x480x256 resolution. It was not widely used.

"We tested several different vendors' products to set up this network: Cisco, Orinoco, even SOHO Soho (sōhō`, sə–), district of Westminster, London, England, known for its continental restaurants. Once a fashionable quarter, it became popular among writers and artists in the 19th cent.  vendors like Linksys and NetGear," said Aaron Raffle, president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of the firm that set up the system for the event at Nemacolin, Aaron M. Raffle & Associates Inc. "Frankly, the SMC solution had the best signal strength and overall quality. Their staff had a lot to do with it, too," added Raffle. "They were by far the most helpful. SMC's support staff interacted with us like members of the team."

After this year's 84 Lumber Classic concludes, Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa plans to use the wireless network to support other functions and events, as well as to set up remote check-in stations during busy times.

About the Products Used

The EZ Connect(TM) Turbo 2.4GHz 11/22 Mbps Auto-Sensing Wireless Bridge (SMC2482W) is an IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, www.ieee.org) A membership organization that includes engineers, scientists and students in electronics and allied fields.  802.11b standards-based Wireless Bridge that supports high data transmission rates of up to 22 Mbps. Designed to connect two or more separated Local Area Networks, it provides coverage at up to 20 miles (with the use of optional SMC high gain antennas), and is the easiest alternative to a traditional wired network. Its Packet Binary Convolutional Coding (PBCC PBCC Palm Beach Community College

) modulation technology supports its high data rate of up to 22 Mbps, with automatic fallback to 11, 5.5, 2, 1 Mbps. It operates in the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum, and supports up to 253 simultaneous wireless network connections, with 64/128/256-bit WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) An IEEE standard security protocol for wireless 802.11 networks. Introduced in 1997, WEP was found to be very inadequate and was superseded by WPA, WPA2 and 802.11i.  (Wired Equivalent Privacy Wired Equivalent Privacy or Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) is a scheme to secure IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. It is part of the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard. ) encryption and Mac Address Filtering for security.

The SMC 2.4GHz High-Gain Antenna Ceiling Box Kit (SMCANT-CEILINGBOX) is an ideal solution providing wireless coverage for any medium to large wireless installation. It puts a 5 dBi omni-directional antenna, SMCAMP-1000 1 Watt Amplifier, SMCAMP-INJ Power Injector, and Power over Ethernet Power over Ethernet or PoE technology describes a system to transmit electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network.  Remote Unit to work, providing coverage for up to 30,000 square feet. The easy to install SMCANT-CEILINGBOX fits in a standard suspended ceiling structure and, because it supports Power over Ethernet, allows for single cable connectivity up to 330 feet away from an available power source.

The award-winning Elite Connect 2.4GHz 802.11b High Power Wireless PC Card (SMC2532W-B) is the highest powered PC Card adapter (1) A PC Card used as a drive that accepts a removable module. Typically used for flash memory cards, such as CompactFlash and SmartMedia, the PC Card adapter plugs into the PC Card slot of the computer, and the memory card plugs into the adapter. See CompactFlash and SmartMedia.  on the market today. It increases mobility and flexibility for wireless networking by providing 802.11b connectivity with up to 200 milliWatts (mW) of transmit power -- nearly four times the power of standard PC Cards and twice the power offered by any other PC Card on the market today -- and excellent receive sensitivity.
