SMC Networks (www.smc.com) today announced the newest in its TigerSwitch(TM) family of high-performance switches, the TigerSwitch 1000, a 24-port 10/100/1000 Standalone Managed Switch (SMC8024L2). Available now, the new switch packs the bandwidth, port density and flexibility to improve overall network performance in edge and workgroup applications, and the management features that make it practical. And, at its MSRP of $699.99, it brings that bandwidth, flexibility and management to the network for less than $30 per port.

The new TigerSwitch 1000 is the newest in "Level 3" of SMC's complete line of gigabit switches that provide four levels of features and functionality to suit users' needs and market applications: Unmanaged Switches, Smart Switches, SMB Managed Switches and Enterprise Managed Switches. Level 3 encompasses SMB Managed Switches that provide efficient Gigabit Ethernet switching for bandwidth-intensive networks, and include a targeted set of management features for true network management in a mid-sized network environment. A feature-rich 10/100/1000BASE-T standalone managed switch, the SMC8024L2 is designed to meet the needs of office and small-to-midsized education application environments. Built with flexibility in mind, four of its ports are combo ports that accept optional SX, LX or ZX SFP transceivers to provide the option for fiber connectivity.

Designed to handle high-bandwidth applications at speeds reaching up to 48Gbps with a non-blocking single chip switching architecture, the SMC8024L2 provides cost-effective, gigabit Ethernet switching for demanding networks that require management capabilities. The SMC8024L2 TigerSwitch 10/100/1000 Standalone Managed Switch has management features to enable secure edge systems, including 802.1x, IP filtering, Quality of Service (QoS) with four levels of priority and weighted fair queuing to ensure smooth transmission of mission critical data and VLANs based on frame tags or ports and spanning tree for loop detection and prevention. A flexible switch with four combo ports in 1U high chassis, this switch is ideal for edge/workgroup installations.

The new SMC8024L2 switch is compact and efficient at just 1RU high, and ideal high-bandwidth applications in high-traffic environments thanks to its non-blocking switching architecture to ensure high performance, and the key security and management features workgroup/edge switching demands.
