Rubin's recent on-air dissing of KABC KABC Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children  general manager Arnie Kleiner apparently resulted in a suspension this week. Rubin was ticked off that Kleiner prevented him from interviewing Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, whose syndicated morning talk show airs on KABC. Rubin could not be reached for comment Friday, and Kleiner declined to speak about the matter. KTLA News says only that Rubin will be back on the air Wednesday, talking up movies and all sorts of TV shows - except, we expect, those that air on KABC.

THE MAKING OF AN IDOL: Talk about instant bios. VH1's ``Driven'' series tonight unveils its profile of Kelly Clarkson, latching onto pop's newest diva before her star begins to dim. Clarkson's ``A Moment Like This'' set a Billboard singles record by jumping to the top spot on the Hot 100 this week from its debut at No. 52, the biggest leap to No. 1 in the chart's history. The VH1 episode includes interviews with Clarkson's mother and stepfather, music teachers and even the friend who filled out her ``American Idol'' application for her. The show also offers never-before-seen photos and home video of the 20-year-old former cocktail waitress and new insights from show judges Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul.
