KING LEAR: Any comedy series on the air today that is remotely cutting- edge is indebted to Norman Lear. Nickelodeon's TV Land (also indebted to Lear Lear (lēr), legendary English king, supposed descendant, through Locrine and Brut, of Aeneas of Troy. The story of Lear and his three daughters probably originated in early Celtic mythology.  for many of its most popular programs) tonight honors his 80th birthday with a marathon representing his broad spectrum of work. It kicks off at 9 p.m. with the ``All in the Family'' episode titled ``Archie the Hero,'' in which Carroll O'Connor's title character finds out that the beautiful dame whose life he saved really is a man. It's followed by ``Good Times: Black Jesus,'' ``Sanford & Son: Steinberg and Son,'' ``Maude: Maude Meets the Duke'' and ``Grady: Fred Visits.'' It will be worth the effort to stay up past midnight (or set the VCR VCR: see videocassette recorder.

COMFORT TV: Can you get too much of a good thing? We may find out when CBS (Cell Broadcast Service) See cell broadcast.  brings back two of its top-rated specials from the past season for a third airing. ``I Love Lucy's 50th Anniversary Special'' is set for Sept. 13 and ``Carol Burnett: Showstoppers'' is back on Sept. 20. The Burnett special, taped before Sept. 11, scored amazing ratings in November, prompting network programmers to delve into their vaults for nostalgia-inducing shows.
