Byline: - Compiled by Valerie Kuklenski

A GRAND VIEW: Vacation season is drawing to a close, but it's never too soon to start thinking about next year's getaways. The Travel Channel shows the well-known vistas and out-of-the-way spots of one of North America's most amazing landmarks in ``American Icons: Grand Canyon Grand Canyon, great gorge of the Colorado River, one of the natural wonders of the world; c.1 mi (1.6 km) deep, from 4 to 18 mi (6.4–29 km) wide, and 217 mi (349 km) long, NW Ariz. .'' The show, airing Sunday, notes that most of its 5 million visitors spend only a couple of hours at the canyon, but they could keep busy for days or weeks within the park with hiking, trail rides, white-water rafting, fishing and other activities.
