BRANCHING OUT: NBC's fall series ``American Dreams,'' centered on kids who dance on Dick Clark's ``American Bandstand,'' needs performers to replicate the 1950s acts on the show, and pop singer Michelle Branch is among those taking on the challenge. In one episode of ``American Dreams,'' which debuts Sept. 29, she'll do her Lesley Gore impression for a rendition of ``You Don't Own Me.'' It's hard to gauge the publicity value for contemporary artists who are playing favorites from five decades past. They won't be doing their own latest hits, nor will they be invited to make any significant changes to the oldie old·ie
