Byline: Elizabeth Snead and Lilliam Rivera

LIFE, LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HOTNESS: Hollywood's hottest new stars and some old favorites turned out for the Movieline Young Hollywood Awards at the El Rey this week. On the super-hot list: Lucy Liu, Sam Rockwell, Christina Applegate, Kate Bosworth, Topher Grace, Joy Bryant, Mandy Moore, Robin Tunney, Ashley Scott, Eve and Charlotte Ross wearing the skimpiest, shiniest halter halter

in the crowd: Harrison Ford, there with his younger-than- springtime girlfriend, Calista Flockhart, and Jon Voight.

Rockwell was ``with'' Liu but sure looked cozy backstage with ``White Oleander'' breakthrough star Alison Lohman. He even picked her up in a very romantic carry-her-over-the-threshold gesture.

Who won what? Aw, we can't spill the beans, but the Movieline awards will be televised on AMC (Advanced Mezzanine Card) See AdvancedTCA.  June 2, with more air dates to follow. But let's just say that Liu, Moore, Bosworth, Eve and Ford weren't photographed holding statues for no reason.

Hundreds of children, buzzing on a sugar rush, scrambled for a photo with the green Oompa Loompa. A giant WONKAmobile dished out candy, even those ever-precious Wonka bars. Hot dogs, popcorn and chicken fingers were on the menu, with the film's soundtrack on heavy rotation.

Who knew Gene Wilder wasn't their first choice?

``We asked Joel Grey to read,'' he explained. ``He was wonderful except for one thing - he was as short as the kids.''
