SMALL SCREEN THE BUZZ ON TELEVISION DICK CLARK HAS SOME NEW YEAR'S EVE COMPETITION.Byline: Valerie Kuklenski Staff Writer DICK CLARK will be sharing the New Year's Eve spotlight this year with two potential heirs to the New Year-ringing tradition. Video music darling Carson Daly hosts ``MTV's Pajama Party.'' It kicks off at 10:30 p.m. from New York's Times Square, which, we presume, is big enough and chaotic enough to hold two televised bashes. The lineup includes Busta Rhymes, Foo Fighters and Avril Lavigne. Ryan Seacrest, the ``American Idol'' host who emcees Fox's ``America's Party,'' is 26, five years younger than Clark's venerable ``New Year's Rockin' Eve'' bash on ABC ABC in full American Broadcasting Co. Seacrest will be beaming at 11 p.m. from Las Vegas with musical guests Ashanti, Sugar Ray, Sheryl Crow and Ja Rule. Clark, who surely has a very wrinkly portrait in his attic, hits the air at 10 p.m. with co-hosts Ali Landry and Mario Lopez. They'll be keeping company with Nelly, Nivea, Third Eye Blind, Uncle Kracker, Missy Elliott, B2K B2K Boys of the New Millennium (band) B2K Blueprint 2000 , O-Town and Rod Stewart. There's a break for local news at 11, and Clark returns at 11:35 p.m. for the big countdown and stays on the air until 2:05 a.m. MTV MTV in full Music Television U.S. cable television network, established in 1980 to present videos of musicians and singers performing new rock music. Perhaps some find that vegging in front of the TV all day is the best way to contemplate New Year's resolutions (such as vowing not to waste so much time vegging in front of the TV).
