Food that's taboo? Sounds exotic.

Simi Valley's new Coco D'Amour, 2321 Tapo St., has cleverly billed its fare as "taboo cuisine."

A look at the menu reveals a Carib-South Pacific accent fused with plenty of basic French cooking.

The kitchen pan-sears sole in a passion-fruit butter, serves pork ribs in a mango-pineapple sauce, covers its baked mahi-mahi with macadamia macadamia (măk'ədā`mēə), name for the nut of the Macadamia ternifolia, an evergreen tree native to Australia, but cultivated in Hawaii. PRIME EXPANSION: By acquiring the Smith & Wollensky steak house chain of 13 restaurants, Joachim Splichal's Patina Restaurant Group may look for a Los Angeles location.

With a Nick and Stef's Steakhouse downtown, Patina's Nick Valenti doesn't rule out the possibility of one more under the Splichal-Valenti banner.
