 Earth Observing System The Earth Observing System (EOS) is a program of NASA comprising a series of artificial satellite missions and scientific instruments in Earth orbit designed for long-term global observations of the land surface, biosphere, atmosphere, and oceans of the Earth.  Data & Information System (EOSDIS EOSDIS Earth Observing System Data and Information System ).

This award brings SM&A's total participation since 1993 to $28 million. SM&A's Systems Solutions Group (SSG SSG

), Space Sciences Division will support the EOSDIS program in three areas:

-- Development of software tools to map satellite measurements to

geographic coordinates, format data for users, and provide

access to data for scientists using Web searches

-- System integration of software for processing data from U.S.

and Japanese instruments on the NASA Terra and Landsat 7

remote sensing satellites

-- Technical operations at data archive and distribution centers

at NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD),

NASA/Langley Research Center (Hampton, VA), the U.S.

Dr. Andrew Endal, Vice President of the SM&A Space Sciences Division said, "This contract confirms the value of our scientists, system designers and software developers in making this vital national system a success."

About EOSDIS

EOSDIS captures and processes telemetry data, generates standard data products, and performs mission operations for instrument and spacecraft control. Data products from EOS Eos (ē`ŏs), in Greek religion and mythology, goddess of dawn; daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia. Every morning she arose early and preceded her brother Helios into the heavens.  and other NASA Earth science missions will be stored at several Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) to support interactive and interoperable retrieval and distribution of data products.
