Dr. Luke is professor of marketing and the head of the marketing department at Southwest Missouri State University Missouri State University is a state university located in Springfield, Missouri. It is the state's second largest university in student enrollment, second only to the University of Missouri. From 1972 to 2005, Missouri State was known as Southwest Missouri State University. . He has been honored by the Academy of Marketing Science (AMS AMS - Andrew Message System ) by being recognized as one of the first fifteen individuals selected as a "Distinguished Fellow of the Academy of Marketing Science." He served on their Board of Governors, the most prestigious position of the Academy, for the 1992-1996 term. He has also served as the AMS vice president of development, vice president and vice president for academic affairs. Dr. Luke presently serves as a board member of the Marketing Management Association (MMA (Microcomputer Managers Association, Inc.) A membership organization with chapters throughout the U.S. that was devoted to educating personnel responsible for personal computers. It disbanded in 1996.

Prior to his employment by TransSystems, Maples was a senior financial consultant with Glass & Associates, consultants to businesses in critical stages of development. He is also former senior vice president and controller for Franklin Savings Association, a publicly held group of financial companies, former vice president of McNally Wellman Company, a group of privately owned engineering and manufacturing companies supplying equipment, systems, parts and service to the international and domestic material handling industry, and former controller/CPA of Gage & Tucker, a multi-office law firm specializing in corporate representation.
