SKYWEST AIRLINES IMPLEMENTS NEW CARE CONNECTION PROGRAM
 WITH PRIMARY CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER
ST. GEORGE, Utah, Sept. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- SkyWest Airlines (NASDAQ: SKYW), a Delta Connection carrier based in St. George, has implemented a new program to aid families of Primary Children's Medical Center LifeFlight patients.
Under SkyWest's "Care Connection" program, LifeFlight crews carry vouchers to give to the families left behind in a medical evacuation. The voucher entitles two family members to purchase $100 roundtrip tickets from any SkyWest city to the airline's Salt Lake City hub. LifeFlight records indicate the service could benefit hundreds of families in the intermountain west.
"The Care Connection program is the first step in a far-reaching program designed to return something to the communities SkyWest serves," said SkyWest Director of Public Affairs Annette Mikat. "Our next step is to implement an identical program in our Los Angeles hub." She said the airline is also working to develop procedures for handling hardship medical travel for those cases falling outside medevac situations, but the program is presently too rudimentary to handle such transports.
She said the idea came from a ramp agent in Salt Lake City who had a child requiring LifeFlight transportation across town. "Our agent said his 30-minute drive to Primary Children's was the longest of his life, and he couldn't imagine the stress of a four- or even 12-hour drive under such circumstances. He subsequently identified an area where SkyWest could lend a helping hand," said Mikat. "We hope the Care Connection program will relieve some of the stress -- both in time and money -- associated with such family crises."
SkyWest Airlines serves 42 cities in eight western United States. Operating 50 aircraft, the airline completes more than 510 flights daily.
