The Antelope Valley
 Writing Contest.

Principal Todd Cherland will lead the school's 925 pupils and staff members at 10 a.m. in the release of helium balloons. The school is at 38043 Division St., beside the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  at Avenue R.

``I feel special when my family ...'' is the theme for the writing contest, open to students throughout the Antelope Valley. Entries are due by March 3. The writing competition is held annually before National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is in April.

Every year the Antelope Valley Child Abuse Prevention Council sponsors the Yes2Kids competition in cooperation with local schools from throughout the valley, including the Kern Kern, river, 155 mi (249 km) long, rising in the S Sierra Nevada Mts., E Calif., and flowing south, then southwest to a reservoir in the extreme southern part of the San Joaquin valley. The river has Isabella Dam as its chief facility.  County communities of Tehachapi, Rosamond and California City. One winner will be named from each grade.

The winners will be honored at a Yes2Kids awards banquet April 6 at Palmdale's Larry Chimbole Cultural Center.

Learning Plaza's balloon kickoff is open to the public and will include remarks by John Whitaker John Whitaker is the name of:

  • The National Children's Bureau, a London-based charity exploring a range of issues involving children.
 and Miesha Council of the Children's Planning Council. The two are members of the Yes2Kids board of directors.
