Principal Todd Cherland will lead the school's 925 pupils and staff members at 10 a.m. in the release of helium balloons. Entries are due by March 3. The writing competition is held annually before National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which is in April. Every year the Antelope Valley Child Abuse Prevention Council sponsors the Yes2Kids competition in cooperation with local schools from throughout the valley, including the Kern Kern, river, 155 mi (249 km) long, rising in the S Sierra Nevada Mts., E Calif., and flowing south, then southwest to a reservoir in the extreme southern part of the San Joaquin valley.
