SKVARNA SWORN IN AS AIRPORT POLICE CHIEF.

BURBANK - A retired Burbank city police captain has been sworn in as chief of the 32-member Bob Hope Airport Bob Hope Airport (IATA: BUR, ICAO: KBUR, FAA LID: BUR) is a regional and national airport located in Burbank, California, United States.

It was formerly known as United Airport (1930-1934); Union Air Terminal (1934-1940);
 Police Department, officials said Monday.

Edward B. Skvarna, 52, rose quickly through the ranks to head a department he joined in April. Sworn as chief in Sept. 1, Skvarna will earn about $86,000 a year.

``He knows the airport well and has excellent relationships with neighboring jurisdictions,'' Airport Authority Executive Director Dios Marrero said in a statement. ``The Airport Authority is fortunate to have Ed to lead our public safety team.''

Skvarna replaces Steven H. Staveley.

He will be responsible for managing officers who arrest unruly passengers, write citations to traffic violators and help speed the flow of the 400,000 to 500,000 passengers who travel through the airport every month.

``I've had plenty of experience to prepare me for this job,'' said Skvarna, who worked 22 years for the Burbank Police Department The Burbank Police Department is the police department serving Burbank, California.

Tim Stehr became the Police Chief of the department on August 1, 2007. The previous chiefs were Thomas Hoefel, David Newsham and Glen Bell.

Skvarna said he hopes to create detective positions and add more staff and officers. He said he also wants to continue to make the officers the ambassadors of the city, and will continue to work with neighboring agencies on how to prevent and respond to a terrorist attack.
