SIX MONTH STREAK CONTINUES; WHEAT VOLUME UP AGAIN AT MINNEAPOLIS GRAIN EXCHANGE

 MINNEAPOLIS, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- For the sixth consecutive month, Spring Wheat futures trading set a new monthly trading record. New standards are being set at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange, as new monthly high trading volume records were established in 23 of the last 28 months.
 -- April Spring Wheat futures traded 376,186,000 bushels -- up 59 percent from April 1992 which was a record volume month last year.
 -- Open interest for April Spring Wheat was off 17 percent from last year.
 -- April Spring Wheat futures volume was 885,000 bushels -- 116 percent more than April 1992.
 Also, the revised Oat futures contract began trading in April. Trading exceeded initial expectations for the contract. Oat volume was 9,555,000 bushels and open interest was 1,560,000 bushels for the month.
 The Minneapolis Grain Exchange is the only authorized U.S. market for Hard Red Spring Wheat and White Wheat futures and options. It is one of the fastest growing futures markets in the United States. A recent Futures Industry Association report showed the Minneapolis Grain Exchange as the only futures market that had increased wheat volume January-March of 1993.
