ESTABLISHED: 1995

NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES: Seven

DESCRIBE YOUR BUSINESS: We provide in-home pet care for animals while their owners are away with daily visits, walks and overnight stays in the owners' home. We also provide medicine injections.

IS THIS YOUR FIRST BUSINESS? Yes

WHY DID YOU START THIS BUSINESS? My pet sitter Noun 1. pet sitter - someone left in charge of pets while their owners are away from home
critter sitter

custodian, keeper, steward - one having charge of buildings or grounds or animals
was moving out of the area and asked me if I wanted to take over her business.

WHERE DID YOU GET THE IDEA? From my pet sitter. I also went to the local library for information on startups, forms and some suggestions.

HOW LONG WAS IT FROM CONCEPT TO OPENING? Less than three months.

WHAT DID YOU DO DURING THAT TIME? I sent out a home mailer (1) An e-mail program. See e-mail program.

(2) A message sent by an e-mail program.

(3) A person or organization sending e-mail.
, put fliers on cars and made visits to veterinarians Veterinarians and veterinary surgeons (vets) are medical professionals who operate exclusively on animals. Well-known and notable veterinarians include:
  • Wayne Allard, a U.S.
, pet shops and groomers.

WHAT WERE YOUR STARTUP COSTS AND HOW DID YOU FINANCE THE BUSINESS? $10,000, paid for with credit cards.

WHO DID YOU RELY ON FOR ADVICE? I tried contacting other pet sitters but only ones from out of state would return my calls. Also the local library and Pet Sitters International.

WHAT HADN'T YOU CONSIDERED BEFORE OPENING? That it's a seven-day-a-week business. Getting up every day, all holidays and working from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Not all pet sitters make more than $30,000 a year - it's very hard work.

WHAT IS YOUR EXPECTED REVENUE THIS YEAR? More than $100,000.

WHAT GOALS DO YOU HAVE FOR THE COMPANY? To grow in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  - we've already expanded into Palm Springs - and try to get more people interested in the benefits of us coming to the home vs. a kennel.
