Valley's long ties to movies and television, from recent commercials like the eBay dancer parading down the city's streets to cult classics like the ``Poltergeist'' house, to Westerns filmed at historic Corriganville.

``We like to think of ourselves as film-friendly,'' Assistant City Manager Brian Gabler told the group over breakfast. ``We're working to make things easier for you, like putting our permit applications on our Web site and smoothing over any issues.''

Ken Hailpern, former director of administration at Brandeis Bardin, led the tour at the first stop, which included ``buildings from the turn of the previous century to post-earthquake'' on the 3,000-acre grounds.

Most impressive to visitors was the House of the Book, a futuristic building at the top of a hill with unique acoustics acoustics (ək`stĭks) [Gr.,=the facts about hearing], the science of sound, including its production, propagation, and effects.  and sweeping vistas of the surrounding hills and valleys.

The tour was sponsored by the Simi Valley Film Council, which is part of the chamber of commerce.

Over lunch at Dakota's, the location scouts, producers and directors traded war stories and networked, comparing notes on what they had seen earlier in the day.

``Simi Valley is close, it's nice,'' said assistant director and producer Tom Smith. ``It's good when the traffic goes against the grain.''
