SIMI VALLEY BOYS MIFFED AFTER GETTING NO. 3 SEED.

Byline: Gerry Gittelson Daily News Staff Writer

Simi Valley High, ranked No. 1 by the Daily News and unbeaten by California boys' basketball competition (25-2 overall), will enter the Southern Section Division I-AA playoffs grim-faced. The players expected better treatment by the Southern Section seeding committee, which on Sunday made the Pioneers a No. 3-seed behind Glendora and Mater Dei.

The Marmonte League champions host Saugus on Friday at 7:30 p.m., one of 74 teams (34 boys, 40 girls) in five divisions to earn postseason berths.

``I think we got kind of messed up,'' Simi Valley center Rafael Beruman said. ``But it doesn't really matter. We have to play every team eventually.''

In Division III-AA, Alemany (17-6) is seeded third and will play host to Santa Paula in the first round. Chaminade is ranked No. 1 in the eight-team Division III-A tournament, facing Estancia of Costa Mesa on Friday at home.

Crespi, ranked second in Division IV-AA, got a tough break. Despite the high seed, the Celts must travel to Duarte on Friday. Crespi was victimized by the Section's transition from regional playoffs this season - league champions are guaranteed home playoff openers - and the Celts were caught in a numbers crunch.

``We have to be prepared to play anyone any place,'' Crespi coach Dick Dornan said. ``If we get by Duarte, I think we are in pretty good shape.''

In the girls' tournament, which also begins Friday, Moorpark is seeded highest among area large schools. The Marmonte League champion Musketeers are seeded No. 2 behind Brea Olinda. They play host to Los Amigos in the first round.

Harvard-Westlake is top-seeded in the Division III-A bracket and has a first-round bye.
