SIMI VALLEY: BRIEFLY : WOMAN SHUTS WINDOW ON WOULD-BE BURGLAR.


SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - A 79-year-old Simi Valley woman pushed a man trying to break into her home back out the window he was climbing through, Simi Valley police reported Friday.

Homeowner Lillian Mayers heard someone trying to break through a window in her home Friday morning and confronted the man, Simi Valley police Sgt. Andy McCluskey said.

``She slammed the window down onto his hands and he tumbled back out the window,'' McCluskey reported. ``She did a good job.''

Police officers responded to a 911 call from the 2000 block of Tapo Street at about 7:30 a.m. Friday. They arrested Edward Victor Larsen, 30, just north of the residence on suspicion of attempted burglary, police said. No injuries were reported.

Man with gun taken to mental health ward

SIMI VALLEY - Police arrested a man armed with a shotgun Friday after responding to a call of a family disturbance on Bigelow Street.

 police, at about 12:30 p.m. a man fled the Bigelow Street residence and was later found in the rear yard of 2337 Fernview St., where he was taken into custody.

The shotgun was recovered a few feet away.

Marijuana cultivation revealed in T.O. home

THOUSAND OAKS - More than 250 marijuana plants, some measuring 5 feet in height, were seized from a Thousand Oaks residence Friday, the Ventura County sheriff's Narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  Unit reported.

SIMI VALLEY - The Simi Valley Police Department The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) is the police department of the city of Simi Valley, California. The department currently has over 120 sworn officers, and more than 65 support personnel[1]. The department has a patrol area that covers over 39 square miles.  is now accepting applications for the next Community Emergency Response Team training course.

The course consists of six training classes on Aug. 1, 13, 20 and 27 and Sept. 3 and 13. The first five classes are from 7 to 10 p.m. at the department headquarters, 3200 Cochran St. Other classes will be at the Ventura County Regional Fire Training Center in Camarillo.

The Response Team program was started after the 1994 Northridge Earthquake to provide Simi Valley residents and businesses with skills to become self-reliant during disasters. More than 200 residents have already completed the course.

Applications are available at the police station.
