SIMI VALLEY: BRIEFLY : T.O. MAN KILLED WHEN CAR HITS TREE.

THOUSAND OAKS - A 31-year-old Thousand Oaks man died Friday after his car crashed into a large oak tree about 8:15 p.m., according to the Ventura County Sheriff's Department.

Police said William Damico was driving his 1986 Acura north on Westlake Boulevard, south of Potrero Road, when he apparently lost control of his vehicle and hit the tree.

A passing motorist called for emergency assistance, but authorities said Damico did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police said they do not suspect alcohol to be a factor in the accident. However, they said Damico may have been driving too fast.

SIMI VALLEY - A tree fire Saturday morning spread to the roof of a nearby home and threatened several others in the 2500 block of Gayle Place, but the only things damaged were trees, a vehicle and a roof.

Officials with the Ventura County Fire Department said firefighters responded with five engines and one truck to the 10:25 a.m. blaze because several homes and structures in the neighborhood had shake-shingle roofs.

However, the fire was limited to five trees, the roof of one single-family dwelling and one vehicle, the spokeswoman said. A dollar amount had not been determined on the damage. The fire was extinguished by 10:46 a.m.

VENTURA - A 27-year-old stabbing victim was in serious condition Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.

Steven Vickers of Ventura received multiple stab wounds Friday evening at Avenue Liquors, at the corner of Ventura Avenue and Barnett Street, police said.

VENTURA - Ventura County property owners must pay their taxes by Wednesday, or face fines, according to Harold S. Pittman, Ventura County tax collector.

Payments must be postmarked before midnight to be considered on time. Mail taxes to Treasurer-Tax Collector, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, Calif. 93009-1290.

In addition, a drop box will be placed at the security telephone on the Telephone Road side of the Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and through midnight Tuesday.
