Child safety day, bike rodeo planned

MOORPARK - Youngsters will be able to test their safety skills during a free child safety day bicycle rodeo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Campus Canyon Elementary School elementary school: see school.  playground, 15300 Monroe Ave.

Events will include a bicycle safety Bicycle safety is the use of practices designed to reduce risk associated with cycling. Some of this subject matter is hotly debated: for example, the discussions as to whether bicycle helmets or cyclepaths really deliver improved safety.  check, bicycle engraving, fingerprinting, slow moving balancing, bicycle weaving and stopping.

The event, coordinated by the Moorpark Kiwanis Club and Moorpark Police Department, is open to children 11 and younger.

Drive-through flu

shots set for Simi

SIMI VALLEY Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  - Free drive-through flu shots will be given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 26 by Simi Valley Hospital & Health Care Services.

Participants can drive up to stations in the Medical Arts Building parking lot, 2950 N. Sycamore Drive.

Appointments are required and can be made by calling Ask-A-Nurse at (805) 583-8971 between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m.

Peanut Day drive to benefit teens

SIMI VALLEY - Members of the Kiwanis Club of Simi Valley will be donning orange vests and selling bags of peanuts at major retail locations Saturday to raise money for programs to combat juvenile crime.

Each year, the Simi Valley Kiwanis conducts its Peanut Day fund-raiser for a worthy local cause. This year, the club is targeting juvenile crime programs, because residents responding to the city's Vision 2020 survey said juvenile crime was their No. 1 concern.
