OXNARD - Two weeks after he was killed by a fellow officer during a drug raid, James Jensen Jr. was honored as Oxnard's 1996 Officer of the Year.

Fellow officers selected Jensen for the honor, recognizing him for always going above and beyond the call of duty. He was nominated for the award before the drug raid, but he was chosen as the recipient after his death.

``Jim would be very proud,'' said Jensen's widow, Jennifer, who was in tears after the Officer of the Year winner was announced during ceremonies Thursday.

Jensen was killed March 13 by fellow SWAT team member Sgt. Daniel Christian in what police believe was a case of mistaken identity. Christian remains on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of police and district attorney investigations.
