SIMI SOCCER CAMP HAS EDGE FOUR BRITISH COACHES TEACH GAME SKILLS.

SIMI VALLEY - The girls from the under-13 soccer team Arsenal get their inspiration straight from England - and it's not David Beckham.

Since the end of June, four soccer coaches from England have been living with Simi Valley families and this past week taught their best moves to dozens of budding players.

``I love the pressure, the action,'' said 11-year-old Brittnay Osnower, who attended the weeklong Simi Valley Youth Soccer camp at Berylwood Park.

``He pushes us,'' said Ariel Hernandez, 12, of soccer coach Ryan Overton. ``He won't let us give up.''

Overton, who said he's been playing soccer since he could walk, was doing his best to pass on his expertise and encourage the young players - all with a British accent.

``I hope they enjoy it. I hope they learn from me,'' he said. ``The chance to come coach here was a big opportunity I could not miss.''

The camps, held for the past seven years, bring in coaches from the U.K. International Soccer Camps, said Dave Newman, vice president of Simi group.

The coaches conduct drills and teach the youngsters game play and strategy. Teamwork is stressed heavily.

``Coaches can only coach so much,'' said Newman, who is also coach of the girls' team and camp coordinator. ``But when you bring somebody from another country it makes it great for the kids.

This year's camp drew a record 50 players.
