Just days after signing a settlement that ends the short tenure of Superintendent Tate Parker, the school board is poised to name an interim administrator at a special meeting Thursday.

School board President Norman Walker said his panel will consider candidates for the superintendent's position after a previously scheduled expulsion hearing. Both matters will be discussed in closed session, he said.

The board will meet Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the school district offices, 875 E. Cochran St.

Parker was put on paid administrative leave June 4, and resigned last week. On Monday he signed a settlement that pays him his $108,000-a-year salary through Aug. 31, and medical, dental and vision insurance until April 30, 1998.

On Monday, Walker said he could not disclose details about the compromise that ends Parker's tenure, which began in January.

``Our advice (from our lawyer) is that we need to leave it as it is,'' he said, adding, ``Legal proceedings All actions that are authorized or sanctioned by law and instituted in a court or a tribunal for the acquisition of rights or the enforcement of remedies. , even if you have a righteous right·eous

Despite the school board's silence on the issue, sources have said Parker was uncommunicative, autocratic and didn't like sharing leadership with other administrators or the board.

Walker declined to name the candidates being considered for the interim post. But he said two candidates already have been interviewed and that he doesn't anticipate other interviews this week.

Despite Parker's resignation and the departure of Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  Susan Parks, who was acting interim superintendent, Walker said the school district is running smoothly.

For instance, he said last week's graduation ceremonies at the city's three high schools were a ``tribute'' to how well the district's staff is handling this transition.

As for the selection of a permanent superintendent, Walker said the board might consider the four other candidates who were interviewed last year along with Parker.

``Nobody would be ruled out,'' he said.
